Lumbosacral Disease

Lumbosacral disease is a catch all term for degeneration around the area where the Lumbar spinal vertebrae transition to the Sacrum. This degeneration applies pressure to the spinal cord and causes pain and or neurologic abnormalities in the hind limbs.

It is most commonly seen in large breed dogs (like the German Shepherd Dog) at 7yrs of age or older but we have definitely seen it in younger dogs and in small breeds of dog who have ignored the textbooks. It is also seen in cats and can cause them to stop jumping up on chairs and finding it difficult to climb into their kitty litter tray, resulting in accidents.
